The Opiate Mass

"--and it would appear that Commander Thyrin, one of the Empire's top military advisers on Coruscant, has been found dead in his apartment penthouse just this morning; authorities speculate a possible drug overdose as Thyrin had not been seen by family or friends in nearly two weeks. When a concerned security detail knocked down his door, they discovered the Commander, 31, expired in front of a holoreciever with drug paraphernalia scattered around his body. Police also discovered an additional three ounces of spice in addition to--"

Fel clicked off the news report and leaned back into his office chair, a zealous smirk lacing his visage. The authorities took the bait, like usual, and Commander Thyrin would no longer be a thorn in his side. Just weeks before, Fel had called for Thyrin's immediate disposal at the hands of the ISB. They had done well, and once again a political enemy of the Empire had been eliminated without so much as raising suspicion. Sure-- the conspiracy theorists would speculate all they wanted, but Fel doubted anyone save for the Commander's family would so much as bat an eyelash. At least now they could be appeased knowing that their beloved Thyrin died with the false reputation of a drug using fiend who abused himself into an overdose.

Fel pulled himself forward to his desk and accessed his datapad. With a few strokes of the stylus, he pulled up a dossier of Thyrin and clicked a small red box at the corner of the screen. A large emboldened 'DECEASED' label now watermarked the file, and Fel documented it into the official archives where it would soon be forgotten about.

A quiet notification buzzed on the datapad; he had an audience with the Emperor in just a few moments. With a roll of his shoulders, Fel heaved himself from his chair and buttoned his tunic all the way to the neck. He elected to leave his sidearm securely in the drawer, as the Royal Guard tended to frown upon him showing up heavy. He stepped out of his office and gave a tender nod to his secretary, who in turn smiled back.

"Shall I hold all calls, Sir?"

"Please do," He replied with a growled tone of voice.

Two Stormtrooers who guarded his door followed him down the corridor, flanking each side. There was no better feeling than being regarded as important enough to have an armed escort everywhere he went. Within a five minute walk, Fel had reached the Emperor's Wing: an entire section of the Imperial Center dedicated to the glorious leader. The COMPNOR offices were strategically placed just a few floors below the Emperor's residence, allowing Fel the ease of a short walk and an even shorter turbolift ride to meet with his direct superior. Upon exiting the left, Fel was greeted with the familiar sight of the reception atrium. Within it were all sorts of pictures and artifacts of the Emperor behind heavy glass cases for anyone with an audience to admire. At the end of the atrium was a security desk.

Fel flashed his identification, and without question the receptionist opened the heavy durasteel door which led Fel to a long corridor. At the end of this hall was the door to the Emperor's throne room, but he would first have to pass through an xray and metal detector, and he was frisked for weapons by the Royal Guard. Finally, though, he was permitted to enter, and the massive doors hissed open as he stepped through. Before him was the throne of Lucius Blackwood, his friend, his leader, and his unquestioned Emperor. As he neared the throne, Fel took a knee out of respect.

"My Liege." He said simply, bowing his head, waiting to be addressed. </div>

The Opiate Mass

Most of Lucius's morning had been taken up with receiving reports from the many Grand Moffs who answered directly to him. The Emperor's mood improved to hear that most major rebellions had been swept aside. Since the Galactic Federation's fall a year ago, most of the largest threats have been crushed and swept aside when the Empire incinerated the ruins of the Federation.

Still he wouldn't let the rest of the Galaxy know that most of the rebels were swept away. Lucius was a true political mastermind and because of that he exploited all angles. The threat of rebellion was what in this time of economic supremacy that the size of the Imperial Military grew out of control. When your the only galactic superpower left there is plenty of benefits. All known planets that were the largest economic powerhouses were firing on all cylinders, working day and night to fuel the rebuilding efforts of the many galactic worlds starting with the vital shipyards.

Lucius clicked off the holoreceiver built into his desk and leaned back. He had just got off with his private session with the Grand Moff of Shadow Hand Command. In the rebuilding effort, Lucius utilized Imperial assets and many slaves taken from various worlds to expedite the rebuilding of the Imperial Throne World of Byss. Byss was his private throne world, a sanctum for the Emperor. Due to its importance, the fleets that patrolled the Deep Core, and the troop units that were stationed on Byss were personally approved by the Emperor, and the Deep Core was always a concern on the Emperor?s mind, one he would share with the Grand Commissioner.

Radec Fel a close friend and ally, also the Grand Comissioner of COMPNOR was on his way up. A monster of a man, zealously loyal in every way, shape, and form. Over the man?s career, Lucius had the man do assignments and deeds of monstrous proportion, ones that may have broken other men to prove his unwavering loyalty, and for his success Radec earned Lucius?s respect and a close friendship with the Galactic Emperor, the first ?official? Emperor to sit on the Imperial Throne since Palpatine, the Progenitor of the Galactic Empire so many years ago.

Being Galactic Emperor wasn?t without its risks and threat of betrayal was one of them. To retaliate against such a possibility, Lucius blessed and closely worked with COMPNOR which ruthlessly combed the ranks of Imperial officials of all branches, to weed out the rivals and threats to the Emperor. As Radec entered the Throne Room Lucius?s gaze fell upon him. ?Rise Radec, I see COMPNOR has taken care of another traitorous Imperial dog?? Lucius said, hinting at Commander Thyrin who was on the news. If he wanted he could have gone and requested all of the files on the commander, and get every piece of info down to what was used to kill the man, Lucius was always very well informed.

The Opiate Mass

Fel flexed his legs and rose to the Emperor's command, flicking his wrist to unwrinkle his uniform. He could not help but revel in the Emperor's presence; the man was the epitome of power and incorruptable spirit. Fel was proud to call Blackwood his friend and ally, and their relationship was a terrifying one at that. Here was Fel, the Grand Commissioner of one of the most powerful organizations within the Empire. He made a point to answer directly to the Emperor and nobody else.

"Then-Commander Thyrin was discovered to have been selling secrets of his duties to the media in addition to coordinating with Federation sympathizers to achieve asylum outside of the Empire's jurisdiction," Fel explained.

"It would seem that the Commander simply couldn't handle the burden of his current stresses and responsibilities and took to the use of illicit substances." He was smug now.

"My Lord, did you know it only takes 275 milligrams of intravenous Somaprin-3 to cause a lethal overdose? The results are quite interesting when combined with Spice; I'm told that it causes acute respiratory failure," He chuckled, "but who knows for sure? I'm not a doctor."

Fel's words were an obvious hint of what he orchestrated a few weeks ago. Of course he would never reveal the details outright, simply on a matter of principle. After all, if he was going to lie to the masses, he might as well believe his own lie. The Emperor was a smart man, though, and Fel was confident that Lucius would be able to connect the dots without much effort. Still, Fel doubted that he was requested into the Emperor's presence to discuss such a trivial event. COMPNOR dealt with such things on a regular basis. The Commissioner speculated that the only reason Thyrin had received so much attention was because of the Commander's intimate relationship with the media. This was why he emphasized the importance of covering tracks when handling a disposal. Even someone as insignificant as Thyrin could potentially attract the unwanted, prying eyes of the evening news.

Not a man to waste time, Fel addressed the Emperor once more.

"How may I next serve you and the Empire, My Lord?" </div>
